Tastings

Bunnahabhain Moine Port Pipe 13yr 55.6% Islay


Nose: Softly peated, slight road tar and some summer fruits are there to balance. Nutty with almonds and a bit earthy


Palate: Dry smoke, wine sweetness, red fruit, mild peat and slightly bitter


Finish: Long with tart black fruits mingling with peat. Well balanced.


Comments: Savor slowly to appreciate







Laphroaig Cairdeas Quarter Cask nas 57.2% Islay


Nose: Honey, fruit, smoke, malt, orange zest, pepper and a bit of vanilla.


Palate: Char and smoke, apples, honey, vanilla, allspice, pepper, mineral water and a touch of mint.


Finish: Long fade of spice, fruit, smoke, and peat











Bowmore Warehouseman's Selection 17yr 51.3% Islay


Nose: Rosemary, oregano, paprika, thyme. Then fruit notes of oranges, strawberry, grapefruit, apricots and mango. A bit nutty with almonds in the fore.


Palate: Creamy, fruity and sweett with vanilla, apricots, mango, candied oranges, honey. Some wine cask notes with late Islay smokiness


Finish: Medium to long, with tobacco and leather, sightly drying









Kilchoman 100% Islay 9yr 58% Islay


Nose: Toffee and butterscotch,delicate ashy smoke with heavy wood spices.


Palate: Slightly oily, peppery, notes of vanilla and honeycomb, toffee and cinnamon. Wonderful smoke and a bit of apricot late


Finish: Long and warming with smoke and wood tanins







Lagavulin 16yr 55.8% Islay


Nose: Warm peat smoke and intense sweetness. Ashy lemons and some charred vanilla, slighty musty. Fruit cocktail, lemon zest


Palate: Signature Lagavulin, smoky, peaty, rich, good fruitiness with raspberry jam. Smoked ham, meaty. Spicy, sweet, and underlying smoke


Finish: Chocolatey, peppery, good mix of coastal notes, lingering smoke and peat. Lovely!











Lagavulin 18yr 53.9% Islay


Nose: Fresh citrus peel, lemon zest, spearmint and tarry smoke. Dried fruit, salty and meaty with late cereal notes


Palate: Lovely viscosity, more lemon zest, stewed apples and a medicinal tar note. Smoke (charred pineapple), cured ham, notes of sultanas, raisins and toffee


Finish: Very long, oily, lingering smoke

Nose: Peaches, tart apples and a touch of barnyard funk


Palate: Fresh fruit, lemon, with a maltiness that strikes a great balance with the tartness


Finish: Palate-cleansing dryness that leaves you wanting more










Meantime Brewing Co "Thomas Hardy's Ale" Barley Wine 11.7% UK


Nose: Candied and alcohol-soaked fruit, dried figs, fresh tobacco and chocolate, caramel


Palate: Nice density and softness, bitter orange marmalade, dried fruit and chestnut, honey.


Finish: Refreshing with a slightly sharp hint that adds balance









Founders “DKML” Imperial Malt Liquor Aged in Bourbon Barrels 14.2% MI


Nose: Big helpings of vanilla-rich malt and corn


Palate: A touch of wood coming through alongside pine-y bitterness.


Finish: Lasting! One to share.













J.W. Lees “Harvest Ale” matured in Lagavulin Whisky Casks 11.5% UK


Nose:  Authentic Lagavulin like character with aromas of raw tobacco and a small dose of earthy smoke


Palate:  A warm toffee sweetness floats beneath the peated notes


Finish: Ultra dry finish.

Exclusive Feis Ile bottlings...

A big welcome to Emory’s daughters Kim & Shelley, to Bob’s wife Christal-Line, and to Marshall (great to see you back) and his wife Cheryl. It was great to have all of you on this excursion! Thanks for all the food-on-a-stick that was (surprisingly) all consumed, as was the whiskey and brew.
